Meet Dr. Becerra

Dr. Reena Becerra, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist PSY34218

Hi, I'm Dr. Becerra!  Some people call me Dr. B or Dr. "Bee"!

I utilize strength-based approaches to empower, educate and provide positive unconditional support to touch the lives of those who need healing and support. My approach is authentic, compassionate and encouraging to find purpose, meaning and growth.

I provide an integrative style with a broad range of skills for families, couples, children, teens and adults.  I utilize a multicultural perspective and incorporate multiple aspects of a systematic approach such as, school, peer relations, community, culture and religious affiliations, which may impact functioning.

I have a deep passion for helping others, which began in 2007, when I volunteered supporting victims of violence. I also chaired VOICES Survivor Network, an advocacy group for women, and a program of the Alliance for HOPE International. There, I became a source of hope, inspiration, and empowerment to women, children and teens struggling with violence and trauma in their homes.  I have worked in multi-disciplinary teams and a variety of prevention agencies within the communities of Southern California, including San Diego and Los Angeles.

Education and Experience

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University and obtained my Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University-California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, California.  I completed a pre-doctoral internship at an intensive outpatient facility for substance use disorders in Los Angeles and completed my post-doctoral hours in private practice treating adolescents, couples and families.

I  have also taught classes and seminars at several universities on overcoming trauma and have provided services to at risk youth and a variety of prevention agencies within the community of San Diego. I have been included in educational documentary tools for prosecutors, judges and forensic staff in the field of violence and have worked with child survivors of abuse in camp settings providing hope and healing.

My Ph.D. dissertation research focused on acculturation, mental health symptoms, risk recognition and danger assessment factors in intimate partner violence survivors. My professional  background also focused on providing therapeutic services and interventions to child, teen and adult survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) in San Diego, throughout my entire career

Featured in and Keynote Events

I have been featured in "Glamour" and "Shine" Magazine and have many media and television appearances including: SHADES of San Diego, The San Diego Insider, Fox TV5: San Diego's Most Wanted: FBI Files.

I have been honored as a guest and keynote speaker at various international conferences. I also was honored with special recognition at my Ph.D. graduation ceremony, in the commencement address speech,  for my work with those affected by trauma and violence.  After earning my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, I continued working with populations affected by intimate partner violence and help women, children, and teens cope with trauma. I have a deep passion to help those who are struggling- to heal, grow and reach their highest potential.
